Design a gallery wall layout- for free!

Last post, I told you how in love I was with the DIY “wallpaper” in my hallway/foyer.

After that, I realized that I didn’t have anything hanging on that beautiful wall. As lame as it sounds, my crib has a travel theme going on.

A gallery wall is perfect for the theme and the wall. It’s long and straight and can be a conversation piece for guests coming in. Where’s a better place to put personal things like books I love and places I’ve been?

The real problem with the hallway is that it has a light switch, thermostat, doorbell chime and breaker box.

You can see most of the hallway objects here

How was I going to arrange this gallery wall without putting a ton of holes in the wall and without spending money on stuff beforehand then having to take it back if it didn’t work?

Being in marketing has its perks, you know about a bunch of online resources. Canva.com is an online design tool that you can use completely free. There are paid things you can buy but none are necessary for this project.

Step 1: Measure your wall in inches then scale it to be used on the computer. For example: the wall is 10 ft by 7 foot tall. 10×12 (for inches)= 120 inches. 7×12= 84. I then scaled it and all wall decor down by 1/3 (so you can see it on the screen at once and easier)

Step 2: Determine what all you need on the gallery wall. Light switches and outlets are already on Canva, just scale them. I used regular squares for the doorbell Chile, thermostat and breaker box (it’s underneath the art wall on the left)

Step 3: Put it on the wall! You can drag and drop items around. A tip is to download pictures or have an idea of products and place them directly into Canva.

Step 4: Buy what you need and get to work IRL.

Canva is a nice tool for other things like making your own wall art, making cards, labels and a ton of other useful stuff for around the home.

Hope this trick makes your life easier, it definitely helped mine! See the pic of the unfinished project below 😏
